Cricket... one such game, in which there are name, fame and limitless money. And there is no matter doubting of viewers craving. Because of these characteristics of cricket, now the commercialization of other sports including cricket has been encouraged. Industrialists and Bollywood stars are organizing and investing their money in various types of sports events for the purpose of making the major expediency. IPL (Indian Premier League) is the living illustration of this.

The commercialization of cricket is getting more as compared to other sports. One of the major reasons for this is, despite being our national sports hockey, people like to watch cricket. The scenario is if you ask any sports-loving kid that what would he want to be. His definite answer will be Sachin Tendulkar. Obviously, he would like to be a cricketer. Everyone is tied to the temptation of cricket. Since the new format of “Fatafat (fast) cricket” has come into being, the world of cricket and the players has changed.

Cricket is now a career for players. Before, where players were paramount in playing cricket with the spirit of patriotism, now in this period of commercialization, they only see moneybags. The better the performance, the more the earnings. Every kind of game has now been directly linked to the business.

IPL has led to the rise of numerous similar league competitions across many sports. These leagues have brought in new investors, more spectators and higher revenues, reason enough for more sports to follow suit.
Here is a list of the numerous professional leagues taking place in India, along with other events in the country that fill up the Indian sports calendars:
Cricket: Indian Premier League
Football: I-League
Hockey: Hockey India League
Badminton: Indian Badminton League
Golf: Golf Premier League
Wrestling: Indian Wrestling League
Mixed Martial Arts: Super Fight League

And this commercializing has led to betting and game fixing. The result is that companies which are producing cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol are now being the sponsors of games and sports persons. It is true that any game can’t be organized without spending money but unnecessary and unfair expenditures also decrease the dignity of the game.
Cheer leader girls are one of the instances of it.

Sports spirits are up to the hilt decreasing due to the commercialism of the game and due to its adverse consequences; people are at risk of falling away from such sports.
Therefore there is a need to curb the commercialization of sports. The game should be played with the game spirit, and definitely not for the economic purpose.
